Taking the Sacrament

It’s Sunday.

It’s also nap time on a Sunday, and here you are, praying your kid cooperates just enough so that you can at least take the bread and water. You are internally swearing while asking for forgiveness. You are also recognizing that Jesus probably fought with his mother as a toddler as well while in synogogue.

SO, here you are. Taking bread, water, and your toddler’s I’m-not-going-to-hold-still because they’re tired, cranky, hungry, and just want to go home as much as you want to be mindfully present for God.

But that thought of Jesus as a toddler comes back to your mind.

You think of those in any faith tradition wrangling toddlers, teenagers, and talkative young adults.

You see the Good in raising people….and see in yourself a need to sit at the Altar of God and sacrifice your wants to Jesus as much as you want your toddler to sacrifice their wants to you.

Funny how that train of thought happens.

And you find yourself, not perfecting the image of a “Good Mom” with “Wonderful, Obedient Children.” You see yourself as honestly humbled in His presence, His love, and His adoration of you. He just wants you to come to Him, to give him YOU, and He, then, promises you His Holy Ghost.

Be present, get presence.

This was that kind of day for me. My toddler was tired during lunch-time sacrament meeting (worship service). She really wasn’t a bad kid at all! Rather, I was the grumpy mother with the need to be perfectly displayed, with an obedient child and a faithful-appearing presence.

God does not want mirrors reflecting ourselves. He was us reflecting Him.

It’s okay, Momma. You can, as we are all learning as Mommas and Dadas and Aunties, etc., to let go of the mirror and be God’s mirror, instead.

Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am. – 3 Nephi 27:27b
