Intentional Discipleship with Christ

by

13 Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.

3 Nephi 5:13

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we often talk about having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

But about making our relationship about discipleship? Being a student of Jesus Christ, not just his brother or sister?

What if we become intentional about our study of Christ so that others can see our good light, our good, beautiful, beaming light that cannot be hid on under a hill?

What if we become intentional disciples of Jesus Christ to gather others to him, not just for relationship, but to extend that relationship to others. In the hopes of sharing the goodness of God through us, others might be able to become intentional disciples as well.

Often, in the Evangelical world, “making disciples” means making followers of Jesus Christ.

And yes, while our relationship with Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are much more intimate, being on the level of brother, sister, and daughter of God, are we serious about being disciples of Jesus Christ?

Studying & Applying Jesus

Studying Jesus does not mean to just consider him at face value, or his words at face value. It means diving into God’s Word with the intent to learn more about ourselves. I’ve heard it often, in some Christian circles, that “we are not the center of the universe.” But if we are the apple of our Father’s eye, we are the center of His universe – each and every one of us. We are precious to Him. The goals are to find ourselves in the scriptures AND learning more about how we relate to God, Christ, and each other.

Imagine: You’ve spent a lifetime studying the scriptures, and know “all about Jesus.” Yet, do you really know Jesus Christ, and are you eager to follow him, keep his words in your heart, and apply it to the every day life?

Are you willing to make other Disciples of Jesus Christ?

Just as Mormon wrote those words, “Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ…,” are we willing to apply His words to our lives and extend that invitation to others?

Invitations

  • Read the Scriptures of God with YOU in it.
  • See what you can apply to your life when you see YOU in the Scriptures.
  • Extend that invitation to others, indirectly and directly!

Thanks,

Leigh ❤
